Chicago Public Schools Student Science Fair, Inc., is an independent 501 (c)3 charitable organization incorporated in the State of Illinois since 1955.
CPS SSF, Inc. is independent of the Chicago Public Schools but collaborates and coordinates closely with CPS to further Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) education with its outside the classroom programs, in particular, conducting the annual CPS Citywide Exhibition of Student STEM research.

History
In 1949, CPS Physics Teachers saw the need to showcase and encourage student STEM interests. In 1950, teachers conducted the first CPS Citywide Science Fair.
In 1950 the first CPS Citywide Science Fair was held at the Museum of Science and Industry.
2025 marks the 75th year of CPS Citywide STEM Exhibitions!
Mission
The mission of CPS SSF Inc. is to foster STEM education among Chicago Public Schools students.
Objectives
The objectives of CPS SSF, Inc. are:
- Provide opportunities and support for students to conduct authentic, independent STEM research and design investigations
- Expose students to STEM topics and diverse STEM learning communities;
- Obtain college scholarships for select CPS graduating seniors;
- Foster an enduring interest in STEM research and design grounded in the science and engineering practices within the CPS community;
- Promote STEM interests and hobbies of students to support career and college readiness;
- Conduct an annual Exhibition of Student STEM Research (science fair, symposium and essay contest).
